How We Name Our Beers at Atlantic Archipelago

At Atlantic Archipelago, we brew beers that tell stories - stories of identity, history, trade, and the shared threads that connect our islands. Our name reflects that vision: a chain of cultures, coastlines, and centuries woven together by the Atlantic. So when it comes to naming our beers, we don’t just pick words that sound good - we choose names that carry meaning.

Here’s a look behind the scenes at how each beer in our core range earned its name:

Act of Union Bitter: A Beer Rooted in Shared Heritage

Our Act of Union Bitter pays homage to the long, intertwined history of the British Isles. Traditional bitters are deeply connected to pub culture - places built on community, conversation, and connection. So we chose a name that reflects that spirit of unity.

The “Act of Union” isn’t about politics - it’s about the idea of bringing people together, just as a pint of bitter has for generations. Malt-forward, warm, familiar, and comforting, this beer feels like a handshake across time.

The Prince Regent Stout: Elegance, Extravagance & Bold Character

Our Prince Regent Stout draws inspiration from the Regency era - a time of lavish style, bold personalities, and artistic flair. The Prince Regent himself was known for indulgence, opulence, and a taste for the finer things.

This stout embraces that same spirit: rich, dark, and luxuriously full-bodied. Smooth roasted malts, notes of chocolate and coffee, and a lingering finish create a beer that feels regal without being pretentious.

It’s a stout with presence - confident, expressive, and unapologetically grand.

Queen & Empress Lager: A Toast to Global Influence

Crisp, clean, and regal, Queen & Empress Lager is inspired by the era when the British Isles were a global crossroads of commerce, culture, and exploration. The name reflects a period of vast influence and iconic royal imagery - but with a modern wink.

It’s a lager that carries itself with poise and clarity - no fuss, no arrogance. Just elegant simplicity with a sense of heritage.

The Tea Clipper Pale Ale: Speed, Spice & the Sea

The Tea Clipper Pale Ale pays tribute to the legendary clipper ships - sleek, fast craft that raced across the oceans carrying tea, textiles, spices, and stories. These ships connected the Atlantic world with distant shores, shaping tastes and trade for centuries.

Bright, aromatic, and refreshing, this pale ale mirrors the vibrant goods those ships once transported. The name captures adventure, movement, and the ever-changing tides of the Atlantic.

The West Saxon IPA: Strength, Grit & Old Kingdoms

The West Saxon IPA draws inspiration from the ancient kingdom of Wessex - a land of shield walls, strong leaders, and rugged countryside. West Saxons were known for their resilience, and this IPA embodies that character: bold hops, assertive flavour, and a backbone that doesn’t waver.

By naming it after one of the earliest English kingdoms, we nod to the roots of the language, culture, and stories that still shape the islands today. It’s modern craft beer with an old soul.

Province of Britannia Golden Ale: Ancient Roots, Modern Shine

Long before the idea of nations, borders, or even breweries, there was Britannia - a Roman province that laid early foundations for life across the Atlantic Archipelago. Our Province of Britannia Golden Ale channels that blend of cultures: ancient meets modern, tradition meets innovation.

Light, approachable, and sunlit in the glass, this golden ale celebrates the enduring layers of history beneath our feet.
